Automating a large portion of social media functions has taken both the human and the social out of social media. This current episode shows you how to put it back through collaboration.
I follow a number of people on twitter with an eye for potential guests for the podcast, or just because they appear interesting and I want to hear what they have to say through their tweets. Lately I have noticed a subtle shift in tweeting behavior that is very different from the early days of using the service, and thought I would discuss it in the current podcast.
Some people have begun to use automated functions to the point that you never seem to have human interaction with the person sending the tweets or providing updates. To me this defeats the purpose of social media and rather than engaging others, has begun to turn a number of people off.
More and more people it seems simply want to send you a one way list of instructions to like them on facebook, buy their latest ebook, or download a million in one things they are now offering. Any pretext of being social has somehow been lost in the goal to get their message in front of you and heaven forbid trying to make any type of connection that would cause me to “want” to like them on Facebook, buy their ebook, or download one of those million in one things they are now offering. Is it just me?
I accept that some degree of automation saves you time but collaboration can also work to take off some of the time pressure and encourage engagement for you and person or group you work with on a project of guest post. The current episode provides some how-to information that can make your marketing campaign golden and a lot more social. Besides, when was the last time you had a Skype chat with or took an automated function to Lunch?
