People talk about mindset as what you decide to think about, when in reality mindset is less about what you think and all about HOW you think. The current podcast episode is a great illustration of that point. A successful Realtor describes how she came to understand social media and the engagement process she uses to effectively market real estate.
Carrie Little was a newlywed who didn’t think she was prepared to buy a house. It took a friend to walk her through the process of saving her down payment and ultimately buying a home. What is significant about Carrie’s story is that she paid attention to what her Realtor friend was doing and decided this was something she wanted to do because she understood how it would provide the control she wanted in her life.
“Just do it” is a great slogan for Nike but a lot of times in real life you have to give some thought to how both your body and mind work and what are the things that will support them. As we went through our blab chat you hear Carrie stop and analyze how something she encountered could work with goals she set for herself. Despite occasional resistance on her part she allows herself to be open to learning something new and then bringing in information that will support her thinking.
Learning social media was simply a byproduct of wanting to know what her kids were doing online when she first started. But once she thought about the potential, she decided to learn as much as possibly to use it for the greatest effect. Again a conscious decision to being open to learning in order to apply this new found knowledge.
She attempts to be on as many social media sites as possible but you hear her quickly add that her usual demographic is 40+ which makes Facebook her prime social media platform. She and colleague Marki Lemons have running discussions on different approaches and the ethics of an approach on a personal and training level. It’s safe to say that the two function as a “Master Mind” group of two. Another conscious decision to not always think you’re right and being willing to have someone offer a counter argument to your thoughts. They are a wonder to encounter even over streaming video.
Carrie is very clear about how engagement drives social media success and not just sending out listings. Understanding your network of high school friends, people you met at the grocery store, or sending out Facebook updates on the latest Chicago Bears game all work in that direction. She says analytics plays a big role in deciding the direction for sharing and platform connection because people respond to what they like.
No matter in your personal life or if you sell real estate, you now understand that how you approach your thought process matters a lot more than just thinking about if you have checked all the boxes and followed a pattern that others have used. You’re going to find yourself being a lot more successful and definitely more authentic.
